Gladbach - Bremen Preview (Posted on Vavel)

Borussia Mönchengladbach will look to cement a top-four place in the table as the Christmas break approaches by picking up three points against struggling Werder Bremen on Wednesday.

It's worth noting that the fixtures between the two sides have an average of 3.5 goals per game over the last 10 years. Last year when the two teams met at Borussia Park, Gladbach ran away as comfortable 4-1 winners.

A similar scoreline could be on the horizon with Bremen's defence giving out more presents than Santa in recent weeks. The visitors have conceded eight goals in their previous games whilst scoring five to ensure their fans are always are on the edge of their seats.

Gladbach will look to dominate the midfield battle as they did against Leverkuson to snatch a 1-1 draw in their previous fixture. The Foals will be trusting two of Europe's finest young midfield talents in Christoph Kramer and Granit Xhaka to dictate the game.

For Bremen, a win could move them up to the healthy heights of 12th in the table; Bremen fans will be hoping their side can finish the year with two encouraging performances to build on after the Christmas break.

However, they will still be without top scorer Franco Di Santo as he recovers from a knee ligament injury and is out until after the Christmas break at the earliest.

Bremen's threat will be provided by their full-backs - Theodor Gebre Selassie and Santiago Garcia, who have been the only positive thus far from a season that has lacked any consistency.

Gladbach are the clear favourites to win three points with Bremen only collecting 5 points from a possible 24 on their travels this season whilst conceding an incrdedible 25 goals.

Probable line-ups:
Gladbach (4-4-1-1): Sommer; Korb, Brouwers, Jantschke, Domínguez; Hahn, Kramer, Xhaka, Herrmann; Raffael; Kruse.

Bremen (4-3-1-2): Wolf; Selassie, Gálvez, Caldirola, Garcia; Fritz, Kroos, Junozovic; Aycicek; Bartels, Selke.
